LBW Community College Nursing students are gaining hands-on pediatric experience this summer through a unique partnership with Blue Lake Camp.
Over five weeks, students from NUR 113, NUR 114, and NUR 211 will provide on-site healthcare support for campers under the supervision of experienced nursing instructors.
This collaboration offers a valuable opportunity for students to fulfill clinical hour requirements while serving in a real-world pediatric setting. Responsibilities include administering daily medications, providing first aid for minor injuries, and responding to health concerns as they arise throughout the day.
Blue Lake Camp, a long-standing summer program for children and youth, provides the ideal environment for nursing students to apply their knowledge in pediatric pharmacology, assessment, and emergency response. Instructors from LBW will oversee all student activities to ensure safe and effective care.
“This experience not only meets required clinical objectives but also helps students grow in confidence and compassion as future nurses,” said Dr. Karen Kelley, Nursing Division Chair, who spearheaded this partnership.
The partnership reflects LBW’s commitment to clinical learning and community engagement, while offering campers and staff access to reliable healthcare support throughout the summer camp season.
