After much prayer and thoughtful consideration, Don Cotton is officially announcing his candidacy for Mayor of Andalusia.

Don Cotton

A lifelong resident of this great city, Cotton is committed to ensuring the continued growth and prosperity of the community he calls home.

“As a graduate of Andalusia High School and a proud member of a family that has lived here for over six decades, I’ve seen firsthand the strength of our city and the potential it holds for the future,” Cotton said. “We’ve raised two sons here and are now with joy as our grandchildren grow up in this same community. I’m excited to offer my experience, dedication, and vision for a brighter Andalusia.”

Cotton’s deep involvement in the life of Andalusia spans decades. His leadership includes six years as President of the Andalusia Little League, where he helped grow the league into one of the fastest growing in the organization. He also served as an elected City Council Member for Dist. 4 from 2000 to 2004.

In addition, Cotton has been an active member of the Kiwanis Club of Andalusia for 25 years, twice serving as President, and is currently the Fair Board Chairman. He was elected as the Lt. Governor for the Alabama district and served two years in this role.

Faith and service are core principles of Cotton’s life. He and his wife, Cheryl, have been dedicated members of First Baptist Church for over 45 years. Cotton has served on multiple church committees, chaired several, and is currently an active deacon. He also hosts the “Good Time Gospel” radio program every Sunday morning, sharing Southern gospel music with the community for over 33 years.

“Professionally, I bring decades of business experience to the table. I understand the challenges of owning and operating a small business and currently serve on the Loan Committee of the Southeast Region Planning Board for 15 years, helping entrepreneurs across Southeast Alabama secure the support they need to succeed,” Cotton said.

As mayor, Cotton’s priorities will focus on practical, meaningful progress for every citizen of Andalusia. His priorities include:

  • Economic development to bring jobs with competitive pay and benefits
  • Full support for our school systems
  • Explore lower utility rate for low-income families and senior citizens
  • Affordable housing and incentives to live inside city limits
  • Equitable support for small businesses including Fair Business Licensing fees
  • Expand youth sports programs and health and wellness facilities for all ages
  • Promote community safety, public works, and equal opportunities for all

“I believe in Andalusia. I believe in its people,” he said.

Over the next few weeks, Cotton looks forward to meeting with residents across Andalusia to share his platform and vision for the city’s future.

“I humbly ask for your vote and support,” Cotton said.
