Andalusia’s 10U Softball All-Stars claimed the Babe Ruth State Championship Sunday afternoon by defeating Covington County, 13-3.
The Andalusia team was undefeated in pool play on Friday, entering the single elimination portion of the tournament as the No. 1 seed. They defeated Lineville, 10-0, Saturday in a game that was rain-delayed, then defeated the tournament’s No. 2 seed, Covington County, 13-3, on Sunday to claim the championship.
Andalusia team members are Laney Cotter, Ryan Stacks, Adelyn Brooks, Oliva Rhea, Merritt Bozeman, Averee Eatman, Charlotte Dozier, Joy Amis, Scarlett Hare, Olivia Sightler, Kinley Lawson, and Mila Newton. Cole Sightler was head coach, assisted by Ray Bozeman and Randall Castleberry.
Covington County’s All-Stars also were undefeated in pool play. They defeated Brewton, 17-5 Saturday morning, then defeated Kinston, 13-3, to get a berth in the final game and become the runners-up in the championship.
Covington County 10U team members were Kennedy Tucker, Rylie Pettus, Tenley Etheridge, Baylee Short, Ramsie Pettus, Emma Driver, Audie Carter, Ada Tucker, Olivia Buckhault, Brooke Greathouse, Mary Rose Colvin, and Kathryn Rolling. Coaches are Mark Mills, Andrew Carter, Josh Pettus, and Amy Rolling.
12U Tournament
In the 12U tournament, Opp’s All-Stars claimed the state championship with a 4-1 win over Kinston Sunday afternoon.
Opp (third seed) was 1-and-1 in pool play on Friday, while Kinston (first seed) won both pool play games.
Opp defeated Lineville, 11-1, Saturday morning and Brewton, 9-6, Saturday evening.
Opp 12U team members were Cara Bentley, Isabella Mcvay, Tenley Buckelew, Kayleigh Langford, Margaret-Hannah Ferrell, Myla Pickron, Macy Mcleod, Jordayn Creech, Marli Ann Wyatt, Allie Jackson, Bella Clark, and Addie Brannon. Coaches are Daniel Clark, Shawn Bentley, and Nolen Jackson.
Kinston defeated Covington County, 10-6, Saturday to advance to the finals.
8U Tournament
New Site’s 8U All-Stars won the state championship Sunday afternoon with a win over Kinston, 17-11.
New Site was one-and-one in pool play on Friday, while Kinston was undefeated in pool play.
New Site defeated Andalusia, 12-2 on Saturday morning, then bested Opp, 14-5, to secure a spot in the finals.
Kinston defeated Lineville, 9-4.
All winners and runners-up qualify to advance to Babe Ruth Regionals, Monroe-West Monroe, La.
