“I’m very proud of all that we’ve accomplished by working together,” Mount said. “I am asking for your support so that we can continue to move Andalusia forward.”

Mount pointed to recent successes in economic development as major achievements of the current administration.

“We were able to work with a number of local businesses and develop partnerships to help our community grow,” he said. “The Shoppes of Covington are a great example. Michael and Shaun Jackson purchased the old Covington Mall, put a whole lot of blood, sweat and tears into rebuilding it, and got new tenants. We were able to help in a way that builds our tax base.”

Other successful projects include relocating Covington Casket into a spec building in the industrial park; working with Draftstone Properties and Three Notch Group, formerly CDG, to renovate historical buildings downtown.

“We were also thrilled when Conecuh Sausage made the decision to move their entire manufacturing facility to Andalusia,” he said. “That $60 million investment came because we had been working for years to have the infrastructure in place so that we could meet the demands of industry.”

Another accomplishment was updating the city’s Comprehensive Plan, which was approved after a series of town hall meetings to get input from local citizens.

“We worked hard to include the suggestions made by citizens in these meetings,” he said. “We look forward to continuing to implement the plan.”

He also pledged to continue listening to residents.

“Most residents of District 2 know that I am always available to listen to their problems and suggestions,” he said. “Working together is the only way to move the community forward.”

Financial stability is important for governments, he said.

“We have worked hard to manage expenses, and to find partners for our projects, including grant funding,” he said. “The attention to sound financial management has earned the city an A+ bond rating from Standard and Poor’s.”

Mount also has been a strong supporter of the city’s first responders.

“During this administration, we renovated the Andalusia Fire Department, which was long overdue,” he said. “We also have worked with the Andalusia Police Department to improve their facilities and provided them with updated technology, which helps them to fight crimes.”

Mount has a long history of community involvement. He has been a director of Southeast  Gas for more than 20 years and is a former chairman of the board.  He is a member of the Covington County Cattlemen’s Association and a member and elder at the First Presbyterian Church of Andalusia.

A retired agriscience teacher who spent 31 of his 37 teaching years at Andalusia High School, Mount is the father of two adult children, Scott Mount and Katie Mount Kirby, and four grandchildren. Scott and Heather Mount have two children who serve in the military and live in Auburn. Katie and Scott Kirby have two children who live and work in Birmingham.

“It has been my honor to represent District 2, and I’m asking for support in this summer’s election.”
