MLK celebrations set

Locals will have the opportunity to celebrate the life of Dr. Martin King Jr. with fellowship and remembrance in the coming days.

On Sunday, Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church will hold a tribute to King at 2:30 p.m.

Speakers include Towanda Stinson, Juanita Banks, Thelma Scott, John Carpenter and Jimmie Jackson.

The guest choir will be Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church.

•Florala Sixth Avenue Baptist Church will also hold a MLK observance, at 5 p.m.

• In Opp, the holiday day will begin with breakfast at the Hardin Street Community Center from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m., on Monday.

The march will begin at city hall at 10 a.m., and participants will walk to the MLK monument near the pool on Hardin Street.

A church service will be held at St. Stephens AME Church, located at 311 Hardin St., at 11 a.m.

• In Florala, a MLK day march will be on Monday and it starts at Carver Community Center at 11 a.m.

St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church will hold at tribute to King at 6 p.m.
