The Auburn Tigers became the top-ranked football team in the most recent Bowl Championship Series poll that was released Sunday.

Auburn defeated then sixth-ranked LSU Saturday 24-17.

Star junior quarterback Cam Newton rushed 28 times for a career-high 217 yards and scored two touchdowns. In passing, he completed 10-of-16 passes for 86 yards.

Newton was selected as the SEC Offensive Player of the Week for the fourth time this season.

In addition, junior defensive tackle Nick Fairley was selected as the defensive lineman of the week.

Auburn will play in Oxford against Ole Miss this Saturday at 5 p.m. CST on ESPN2.
