An Andalusia woman was air lifted after a one-vehicle accident Friday, while a deputy narrowly escaped injury after another vehicle hit his car while he was en route to the accident.

An Alabama State Trooper spokesperson said the woman, who was identified as Melissa Ann Elmore, 38, was air lifted to Baptist South after her 2003 GMC left the roadway.

Chief Deputy David Anderson said the deputy, who was not identified, was traveling “lights and sirens” to the Airport Road scene.

“He was west bound on Opine Road when he attempted to pass a vehicle that turned into his car,” Anderson said. “Luckily, there were no injuries, but Opp Police Department is investigating.”

Anderson said the car sustained “significant” damage and had to be towed.
