A Carolina man is facing a murder charge after confessing he shot his brother Tuesday.

Sheriff Dennis Meeks said officers responded to the Bass Bridge Road home shortly after 10 a.m. When they arrived, deputies found Cleve Wayne Norris, 50, dead from a gunshot wound to the chest. His brother, Clarence Alvin Norris, 51, was detained at the scene for some six hours as investigators with the Covington County Sheriff’s Office processed the scene.

Coroner Norman Hobson pronounced Mr. Norris dead at the scene, and the body was sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Science in Montgomery for an autopsy.

In the hours following the shooting, law enforcement declined to call the incident a murder, stating only they were investigating a “suspicious death;” however, shortly after 5 p.m., CCSO announced Clarence Norris had confessed and was charged with murder and placed into the Covington County Jail without bond.

Circumstances surrounding the shooting were not released.
