Prescription take-back event nets 191 pounds

Nearly 200 pounds of prescription and over-the-counter pills were brought to the “Take Back Prescription Pills” event Thursday.

The event was held in the at Darby’s Village Pharmacy.

The Covington County Children’s Policy Council Coalition, the Alabama Clean Water Partnership, Andalusia Regional Hospital, Covington County Drug Task Force and the Covington County Sheriff’s Department sponsored the event.

Drug Task Force Cmdr. Mark Odom said that in all, 191 pounds of pills were collected.

“That’s double what we’ve gotten in the past,” he said. “This is the best one we’ve ever had.”

Similar events are planned in Opp and Florala, and residents are encouraged to bring expired and unwanted prescriptions and over-the-counter medication for free and safe disposal.
