MOBILE — Fourth-ranked Class 4A UMS-Wright (7-1) scored a touchdown in each of the final three quarters to secure its Region 1 victory.

Troy Dixon’s 1-yard run and Tom Taylor’s PAT kick with 4:25 left in the second quarter gave the Bulldogs a 7-6 halftime lead.

UMS-Wright extended its advantage to 14-6 on George Williams’ 1-yard run and Taylor’s PAT kick with 1:00 remaining in the third quarter.

Both teams scored in the fourth quarter. UMS-Wright’s points came on Gunner Roach’s 24-yard pass to T.J. Dixon and Taylor’s third PAT kick.

Andalusia head football coach Brian Seymore said this was his team’s best four-quarter effort.

“I thought our kids played extremely hard,” Seymore said. “I thought we battled for four quarters, and we had some opportunities.”

Additionally, Seymore said he thinks the players realize who they are as a football team right now.

AHS trailed 21-6 late in the game and faced a third and 14 on offense, but threw the ball away on an interception.

Seymore said UMS made a good play on the down.

“They did a double move on our No. 2 receiver and we threw the ball,” he said. “Mike (McCalman) made a good read on the play.”

Despite trailing by 15 points, Seymore said his Bulldogs showed a lot of class, driving for another TD.

UMS-Wright had 232 total yards of offense. Andalusia (5-3) gained 243 total yards.
