Wing post office adopts shorter hours

Residents in Wing can breathe a sigh of relief – their post office is safe, though the hours will be shorter.

Debbie Fetterly, spokesperson for the USPS said that at Tuesday’s meeting, residents had the opportunity to select from four different options.

Wing residents chose to keep the post office open and offer window service hours for four hours each day, instead of the current eight hours, effective Jan. 12.

Retail hours will be from 8 a.m. until noon, Monday through Friday and from 8 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.

Current Saturday hours will not be reduced, and access to delivery receptacles will not change, Fetterly said.

“Customers will have access to their mail receptacles 24 hours a day,” Fetterly said. “And the post office box mail will be available daily for pick up by 10 a.m.”

The changes come as a result of POSTPlan, which is designed to keep post offices across the country open by realigning retail window hours based on customer use.
