A 7-year-old Butler County boy is believed dead and his pregnant mother injured following a car crash on Ala. Hwy. 55 North Wednesday.

Emergency personnel, including Life Flight, were dispatched to the scene in front of the Gitty-Up-N-Go in Red Level just before 5:30 p.m.; however, once medical personnel arrived, the helicopter call was cancelled.

Chief Deputy David Anderson with the Covington County Sheriff’s Office said the drivers of each vehicle were uninjured. Anderson said the boy was sent via ambulance to Georgiana Hospital, while his mother was sent to Andalusia Regional Hospital for treatment.

Anderson said the accident is currently under investigation by the Alabama State Troopers.

Holiday traffic was stalled for nearly an hour as law enforcement processed the accident site.
