The Opp City Council approved terms for nine Downtown Redevelopment Authority board members at its meeting this week.

DRA president Ernie DePrinzio said in a workshop that the council’s approval was needed so that the board could comply with state laws.

“You are just acknowledging that these are the term limits,” DePrinzio said. “Somehow, the terms were originally set and went to the wayside or were never enforced.”

In October, there were some fireworks at a DRA meeting over who would become the new chairman because it was unclear who was actually on the board.

DePrinzio said there are other individuals involved in DRA, but only those who actually reside in Opp may be board members.

However, DePrinzio said, that folks such Emilee Gage at the Chamber, who doesn’t live in Opp, may serve on DRA events committees.

The following board members were approved:

• Stacie Edgar with a term expiring Dec. 31, 2014;

• Tommie Norris with a term expiring Dec. 31, 2014;

• Ronny Penn with a term expiring Dec. 31, 2014;

• Mike Booth with a term expiring Dec. 31, 2014;

• Arlin Davis with a term expiring Dec. 31, 2016;

• Charles Willis with a term expiring Dec. 31, 2016;

• Maggie Bartholomew with a term expiring Dec. 31, 2018;

• Danny Bess with a term expiring Dec. 31, 2018;

• Ernie DePrinzio with a term expiring Dec. 31, 2018.
