Deadline for Opp HOF extended

The deadline to submit nominations for this year’s Opp Hall of Fame has been extended, said Emilee Gage of the Opp Chamber of Commerce.

Each year, the Opp Chamber of Commerce selects one or two people “to honor, preserve and perpetuate the names and outstanding accomplishments of personalities who have brought lasting fame to the City of Opp, Covington County, State of Alabama and the United States of America.”

Criteria include:

• A person must have made an outstanding contribution to the city; and

• All nominees must be 65 years or older, retired for the last three years or deceased;

The honoree will be honored at the Chamber of Commerce banquet and Hall of Fame induction ceremony on May 9 at 7 p.m. at the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.

Previous inductees include Fletcher Franklin Jones, Thomas Pelham Winston and Hubert Sullivan.

Deadline to submit nominations is Feb. 22, and a completed nomination application and photograph must be submitted before the deadline to be eligible for the nomination.
