Opp went on a 12-0 run in the final 32 seconds and the Lady Bobcats rolled to a 62-42 Class 3A South Sub Regional victory over Cottage Hill Christian Academy on Thursday night in Mobile.

OHS led throughout the game, where CHCA cut the game to 47-42 with two minutes left, Lady Bobcats coach SaRhonda Dickerson said.

“The girls went out and played really, really, really good defense,” Dickerson said. “Our defense opened up our offense. At one point, the crowd really got in the game.

“We only had a five-point lead at the two-minute mark, and they really turned it one and got it up to the 20-point lead,” she said.

Dickerson credited the lead coming off of transition on defense.

With this victory, the Lady Bobcats (20-4) advance to play in the South Regional Tournament next week in Dothan. OHS will face Daleville at 6 p.m. on Thursday for the tournament semifinals at the Dothan Civic Center.

At halftime, Opp led 27-10.

In the first half, the Lady Bobcats dominated again on defense, while also utilizing their transition game on offense, Dickerson said.

Saquaya Lane led OHS with 20 points. Nisha Stoudemire scored 19 points, Asia Edwards had 12 points and Laiken Free chipped in nine points.

Cottage Hill’s Victoria Woodruff led with 15 points. Rachel Howell had 11 points and Jana Hendrix 10.

Dickerson said this win felt good and that it gives her players another opportunity to play.

“We’re still taking it one game at a time,” she said. “We want to reach that goal of playing March 2 at 9 a.m. (in the state championship). They never lost site of our goal.”
