AUDREY ‘BEN’ PETTY

Audrey “Ben” Petty, 72, died Sun., March 12, 2013.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., today, Wed., March 13, at Macedonia Cemetery in Rose Hill. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at Keahey Funeral Home Chapel.

He is survived by one son, Mike Petty; two daughters, Kay Petty and Angie Johnson; one sister, Carolyn Berry; and two grandchildren.

 

MARY MARQUITTE DEWRELL

Mary Marquitte Dewrell, 82, of Andalusia, died Mon. March 11, 2013, in a Dothan hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thurs. March 14, at Sanford Baptist Church with the Rev. Joe Jackson officiating and interment following at Sanford Cemetery with Foreman Brown-Service Funeral Home directing.

Visitation will be tonight at Foreman’s from 5 to 7 and 30 minutes prior to services at the church.

She is survived by her two daughters, Patricia (Raymond) Gay and Jennifer Ann (David) Whisonant, all of Andalusia; four grandchildren; one brother, J. R. Monk of Bonifay, Fla.’ one sister, Mabel McCord of Warner Robbins, Ga.; and many special friends.

 

RUE NELLE QUALLS APLIN

Rue Nelle Qualls Aplin was born on Nov. 23, 1925, in Kinston, to Charlie and Selma Qualls and entered into Heaven on March 8, 2013.

She was a resident of Crestview for nearly 60 years. She retired from the Okaloosa County, Fla., Tax Collector’s office following a 24-year career. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Bruce Aplin, and twin daughters.

She is survived by four sons, Al and wife Debra, Charles and wife Jeannie, Greg, and Don; a daughter, Tami Noyes and husband Steve. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

The celebration of Rue Nelle’s life was held Tues., March 12, at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Whitehurst-Powell Funeral Home with the Rev. Donnie Cadenhead officiating. Mrs. Aplin’s seven grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Burial will follow in the Liveoak Park Memorial Cemetery.

VIRGINIA GAIL (PIERCE-BRABNER) MANLEY

Virginia Manley, 70, of Chattanooga, Tenn., was called home by the Lord on March 11, 2013.

Born on Sept. 29, 1942, in Opp, she was a majorette at Opp High School, where she graduated in 1960. She attended the Uni-versity of Monte-vallo, the Patricia Stevens Modeling School in Atlanta, and the Mobile School of Cosmetology in Mobile. She retired from McKee Foods in Collegedale, Tenn.

She had a deep love for family and friends. She loved children and her home was open to many including two exchange students from Norway – Eileen Mitbo and Hilde Mitbo Croxall (Chattanooga, Tenn.). She enjoyed music and dancing with the Chattanooga Choo-Choo Shag Club, where she was a member and officer for many years. She was an avid bridge player and played in a club with her dearest friends for as many as 40 years. She also enjoyed sight seeing and has taken many traveling adventures with her husband.

She was preceded in death by her father, James Byrd Pierce, and brother, Thomas James Pierce III of Opp.

Survivors include her mother, Marie Pruitt Pierce of Andalusia; her loving husband, Brent Manley; son, John David and wife Lisa Brabner of Chattanooga; daughter, Catherine “Kaki” and husband Tommy Thompson Sr. of Chattanooga; daughter, Teresa and husband, the Rev. Brent Pope, of New London, N.C.; son, Bryan and wife Shannon Brabner of Atlanta; sister, Ellen Pierce Lamar of Montgomery; sister, Mary Lynn Pierce and husband Steve Edgar of Andalusia; step-children, John Douglas and wife Vicki Manley of Ringgold, Ga., and David Brenton and wife Rebekah Manley of Chattanooga; grandchildren, Jay and Sarah Brabner of Andalusia, Tommy Jr. and Katie Thompson of Chattanooga, Allison and Garrett Pope of New London, N.C., and Erica and Emerie Brabner of Atlanta; and step-grandchildren, Robbie Lindner of Atlanta, Andrew Williams and Hannah Neff of Chattanooga, Alina and Hannah Grace Manley of Chattanooga and Micah and MacKenzie Manley of Ringgold, Ga.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Thurs., March 14, at Hickory Valley Baptist Church in Chattanooga with the Rev. Brent Pope officiating. Visitation with the family will follow the service.
