Straughn finished second in Brantley’s baseball tournament on Saturday.

The Tigers beat LAMP 20-4 in their semifinal game, and lost 6-0 to Excel in the first championship game.

“We really played with every hitter until that last game,” SHS coach John Fussell said. “The Excel pitcher was a ninth grader.

“We struck out 11 times,” he said. “Our batters watched 31 fast balls for strikes.”

Fussell said the players didn’t swing at the pitches.

Fussell said he thought pitchers Rollin Kinsaul and Tucker Lawless did well on the mound in the loss to Excel.

“We’ve just got make plays behind them,” he said.

Complete stats and the second championship game score were not available as of press time Monday night.
