The income limits for extra help with Medicare and prescription costs have gone up for 2013. This year, the limits actually rose by more than the cost of living increase in benefit checks, which means that people who did not qualify last year may be eligible this year.

The monthly gross income limit for help with prescription costs is now $1456.25 for a one person household, $1,958.75 for a two person household, and $502.50 more for each additional dependent.

The monthly gross income limit for the state to pay your Medicare Part B premium has also increased to $1,313 for single, separated, divorced, and widowed persons and to $1765 for married couples who reside together.

One can sign up for any of these benefits today, Thurs., April 4, between 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m., at the Andalusia Senior Center.

Bring their Social Security cards, Medicare and any other health or prescription cards (if they have any), date of birth and income information.
