Probate Judge Ben Bowden advises all Covington County residents who don’t want to make two trips to the courthouse to renew their tag to read this announcement and believe it.

New rules passed by the state require that the driver’s license number of each person listed on the vehicle registration be presented when the tag is renewed.

“You don’t even have to have a copy of your spouses’s driver’s license,” Bowden said. “You just have to know the number.”

With that information, renewal is a snap. Without it, his staff will really have to turn you away.

“This is a new requirement,” Bowden said. “In the past, you didn’t have to show anything. Now, the driver’s license information is needed for each person listed on the registration.”

Proof of insurance also must be presented to renew the tag.
