Florala topped Andalusia 3-1 in softball action Thursday at the Dwight Mikel Sports Complex.

The Lady Wildcats were led by Lily Ritzel, who shut the Lady Bulldogs down in hitting until the fourth inning.

“We didn’t get a hit until the fourth inning,” AHS coach Brad Garner said. “We went through our order the first time then. That was the difference in the ball game.”

FHS scored three runs — one each in the first through third innings — early in the contest. One of the three runs was scored unearned.

Andalusia couldn’t get a timely hit when it needed it, Garner said.

“That girl is a very good pitcher from Florala,” he said. “It was a good, clean game. I thought we played fairly well. We played solid defense. Some of our subs played a lot because one to three starters were gone on a band trip.”

The Lady Bulldogs had runners in scoring position for more than the majority of the contest, the coach said.

Next week, AHS has two crucial area road game at Hillcrest-Evergree on Tuesday and at Monroe County on Thursday.

If the Lady Bulldogs win these next two area games, then they’ll win the right to host the Class 4A, Area 2 tournament.
