Andalusia’s boys and girls tennis teams finished second in the Class 4A sectional tournament on Thursday at the Copeland-Cox Tennis Center in Mobile.

The boys team finished with 17 total points.

Both teams won enough matches in singles and doubles to beat Charles Henderson, but fell to sectional champion, UMS-Wright in the finals.

With the runner up finish, Andalusia advances to play in the state tournament next Thursday and Friday at Lagoon Park in Montgomery.

AHS tennis coach Perry Dillard said the sectional tournament was a good warm up for both teams leading into next week’s play.

“We’re excited about going to state,” Dillard said. “We won’t know the teams we’ll face until sectionals are over.

“This is good preparation for us going to state,” he said.

Andalusia’s Alex Evans and David May beat Charles Henderson in No. 1 and 2 singles, but lost to UMS-Wright in the finals.

Brandon Scruggs lost to CHHS in No. 3 singles; Jackson Moore beat CHHS in No. 4 singles, but lost to UMS-Wright in the finals.
