Florala’s Lily Ritzel threw a three-hitter and had 16 strikeouts in the Lady Wildcats’ 1-0 victory over W.S. Neal on Tuesday.

With the win, FHS won its ninth straight game and improved to 13-12 on the season.

“I have been very pleased with our play this year, but never satisfied,” FHS coach Pat Maddox said. “We are such a young team. We have only two seniors and two juniors, and we get better and be better.”

Lyndsee Edwards scored the game-winning run in the second inning off of a single by Callie Wise.

Edwards finished with a single for the day. Kendyl McDaniel had double and Wise had two singles. Addtionally, Grace Cox had a single for FHS.

In other softball action, Pleasant Home fell 5-0 to Geneva in a road contest.

The Lady Eagles had two errors in the field, and the only bater who got on base was Anna Bulger, who finished 2-for-3 with a triple.

Florala and Pleasant Home will be back in action on Friday and Saturday in Elba’s 18-team softball tournament.
