Police captured the second suspect in an attempted robbery in Andalusia on last Sunday.

Aaron L. Rhudy, 20, was arrested by Covington County Sheriff’s deputy Heath Truman on charges of attempted robbery, theft of property III and assault III Thursday night.

Andalusia Police investigator Roger Cender said previously the incident occurred when Brendon Curry, 16, and Rhudy allegedly approached a vehicle on Railroad Avenue. The two waved the driver into a Robinson Park parking space and demanded money.

When the driver said he didn’t have any, Curry allegedly pulled out a can of Mace, opened the driver’s door, climbed over the driver and proceeded to rummage through the center console for money or something of value, Cender said.

As the driver attempted to put the vehicle in reverse to “get away from the situation,” Rhudy opened the back door, Cender said.

“That was when he climbed over a 2-year-old and sucker punched the driver in the face,” he said.

The driver was able to flee and locate a patrol officer nearby. Curry was apprehended a short time later. He is charged as an adult on charges of attempted robbery II, assault II on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest and attempting to elude. He is being held on a $306,000 bond.

Rhudy is being held on a $206,000 bond.
