It will be a week full of music, lights, fun and more as the First Baptist Church hosts its annual children’s music camp next week.

Music Minister Dwight Crigger said the camp will last Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m., and is for first through sixth graders.

“I am very excited about the week,” he said. “We will present ‘The Star Factor’ on Friday night at 6:30 in the sanctuary of FBC.”

Crigger said the setting of the musical is Camp Heart & Soul, a summer arts camp that features a talent showcase with an exciting twist, this year, the showcase winner earns the opportunity to compete on a national TV show “The Star Factor.”

“The camp has asked the show’s host Johnny Secrest to be the camp’s celebrity coach, but he sends a replacement, an eager wannabe named Rick Bricklebee, who tells the children to ‘look out for yourself and no one else if you want to be a star,’” Crigger said. “Although the children initially work together, Bricklebee’s influence begins to rub off on them as the week continues, until everything falls apart just before the big showcase. The kids eventually learn that every part of the Body of Christ is important, and every person has a special and unique role to play.

“This is a lesson we all need to learn,” Crigger said.

Crigger said each day will include crafts, singing, drama, recreation, worship and games. It is open to the public, and cost is $50.
