A Red Oak man was found dead Tuesday – the victim of an apparent farming accident on Saturday.

Chief Deputy David Anderson said deputies arrived on the scene at approximately 10 a.m. to find 70-year-old Gary Lee Nelson dead at his home on Rockhole Bridge Road.

“(Nelson) was apparently trying to unload some crossties from a trailer,” Anderson said. “The load had shifted and pinned him under part of the load. (Nelson) had apparently been there since late Saturday, according to relatives.”

Anderson said Nelson’s wife was out of the county, which accounted for the delay in the discovery.

Nelson was pronounced dead at the scene by coroner Norman Hobson.

No other information on in the incident was released.
