JACK HARRIS HARTZOG

Jack Harris Hartzog, 87, died Thurs., July 11, 2013, at the Missouri State Veterans Home in Cape, Mo.

Born Jan. 17, 1926, in Birmingham, as the son of the late Horace W. and Minerva (Harris) Hartzog, he was a member of First Baptist Church in Sikeston.

He graduated Red Level High School in 1943 and served in the U.S. Army in the Company F 310 Infantry Regiment 78th Infantry Division in the European Theater of World War II from April 1944 to April 1946. Upon returning from military service, he enrolled in Auburn University where he graduated in December of 1949. In November of 1950, he became a personnel specialist with the U.S. Air Force, retiring from the position in 1988 as a personnel officer from Little Rock Air Force Base.

On July 3, 1976, in Blytheville, Ark., he married Helen J. (Huff) Hartzog.

He is survived by his wife; one stepson, Michael Huff of Sikeston; one stepdaughter, Saundra Swarts of Middletown, Ill.; six cousins, Trammell Hartzog, Carol Vinlove, Memory Barrow, Jimmy Mitchell, Harry Mitchell and Daniel Hartzog; six step-grandchildren; and 14 step-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Mabry Hartzog, and an infant brother.

A funeral service will be held on Sat., July 13, at 4 p.m. at the Ponder Funeral Home with the Rev. David Ross, pastor of First Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in the Fairmont Cemetery in Red Level Alabama at 10 a.m. on Tues., July 16.

WILLIAM JAMES OSSSENFORT

William James Osssenfort, 71, of Forest Hills Lane, Andalusia, died Fri., July 12, 2013, at his home.

He is survived by his wife, Maria Ossenfort; daughter, Cynthia Ossenfort; sons, William James Ossenfort Jr., Peter Ossenfort and Christopher Joseph Ossenfort; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a brother; and a sister.

MINNIE LEE HUGHEN

Minnie Lee Hughen, 82, of Ala. Hwy. 55 South, died Fri., July 12, 2013, at her residence.

She is survived by a daughter, Aundria J. Knoode; son, James M. Cook Sr.; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three sisters.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Foreman Funeral Home.

 

LILLIAN PATRICIA HOLLEY MCADAMS

Mrs. Lillian Patricia Holley McAdams, 86, of Birmingham, formerly of Florala, passed away on Wed., July 10, 2013, in a Birmingham assisted living facility.

Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m., today, Sat., July 13, at North Creek Church Cemetery with Keahey Funeral Home directing and the Rev. William Aplin officiating.

Survivors include one daughter, Beverly (Kurt) Miller of Birmingham; one granddaughter, Abigail Elizabeth Miller of Boston; and one sister, Shirley (Bob)  Harrison of Decatur.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar McAdams; a son, Edgar Greggory McAdams; her parents, T.B. and Ruth Holley; two brothers, Buford and Charles Holley, and four sisters, Edith Lurie, Evelyn Brooks, Betty Siegel and Marie Goolsby.

CHARLES COOK

Charles Cook, 58, of Andalusia, passed away on Fri., July 12, 2013, at his residence.

Funeral arrangements will be held at 10 a.m., Mon., July 15, at Good News Chapel with the Rev. Jay Driver officiating.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Keahey Funeral Home.

Survivors include a son, Chadwick J. Cook; two daughters, Roxann Watson and Karrie Cook; one sister, Twainnia (Joe) Baker, all of Andalusia; four grandchildren, Alexa Watson, Kelly Watson, Tanner Cook and Thomas Cook; one great-granddaughter, Jayden Cook; two nephews, Jamie (Samantha) Meredith, Rodney (Ashley) Meredith, all of Andalusia; and one niece, Tonya (Aric) Cumbie, also Andalusia.

Pallbearers will be Rodney Meredith, Todd Sasser, Drew Cook, Travis Golden, Aric Cumbie and Cody Holmes.

Honorary pallbearers will be Malcom Soles, Greg Watson and Russell Barnes.
