You might have heard the adage about a woman scorned, but one local man knows it to be fact after his estranged girlfriend allegedly stole his checkbook and wrote nearly 30 checks on the account.

Sgt. Jody Scott of the Andalusia Police Department said Monday that Sara Leann Carroll, 29, is facing 26 counts of second-degree forgery because of the incident.

“And that’s just what occurred in Andalusia,” Scott said. “She began writing the checks on June 22 and went through July 1 at places such as Wal-Mart, Winn-Dixie, Cost Plus and the Dollar General. What she would do is make a small purchase and then get cash back – usually around $25.”

Scott said Carroll was taken into custody Sunday by deputies with the Covington County Sheriff’s Office and is being held in the county jail under a $260,000 bond.

He said Carroll also passed checks in the county’s jurisdiction and could be facing additional charges.
