Florala’s Lady Wildcats are determined to tally more wins this season.

In its third year as a volleyball program, Florala has a lot of experience back for its 2013 campaign.

The Lady Wildcats have three seniors and one junior who have been with the team since its inception.

FHS coach Joea McNeil said even though the varsity squad has experience, she kept a couple girls down in junior varsity to build experience for down the road.

“I think that we’re going to have a good season this year,” McNeil said. “We’re going to get more wins this year. The girls, every year, they’ve improved. I think they’re really on the verge of having a winning season.

“I think hard work and excitement and the seniors and my one junior are going to do a really good job of leading the team this year,” she said.

Florala’s three seniors are Lyndsee Edwards, Karlie Holmes and Oneesha Wilson. Florala’s junior is Bailea Rickett.

Unlike last year, the Lady Wildcats will have a libero on their squad this year, McNeil said.

“Shay Brooks will fill that role,” the coach said. “She’s just a really awesome passer. I talked to her and she said she’d love to do that.”

McNeil said Rickett will be doing a lot of setting on the team.

There are 16 girls total on Florala’s varsity and junior varsity squads.

In area play, the Lady Wildcats are in Class 1A, Area 2 with Pleasant Home and Kinston.

FHS has already had a match this season, falling 1-2 to Samson in a best-of-three contest on Thursday for its opener.

Area play starts today, where the Lady Wildcats play host to Kinston at 4 p.m.

“We’re excited for another season,” McNeil said. “We’ve got a pretty good schedule. Kinston and Pleasant Home being in our area are both really good teams.

“We’re just excited for another year,” she said.
