OPHELIA ADAMS ALBRITTON

Ophelia Adams Albritton passed away on Sun., Sept. 15, 2013, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, Spartanburg, S.C.

Funeral services will be held on Sat., Sept. 21, at 11 a.m., at the First Presbyterian Church, Andalusia, with the Rev. Frank Beall officiating and interment following at Andalusia Memorial Gardens with Foreman Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be in the church sanctuary from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

Born Feb. 6, 1919, in Red Level, she was the youngest daughter of the late Benjamin and Emily (Connell) Adams. She attended the University of Alabama, where she majored in Textiles and Clothing Design. She married the late Marvin Albritton in 1941. Following her husband’s graduation from law school, she returned to Andalusia where she became, and remained, a vital force in her community and church. She gave of her talents freely and used her artistry and vision to enhance her home as well as numerous areas of public life. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and faithful friend, she was a true lady. Her grace, kindness and gentility touched all of those with whom she was acquainted.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Kenneth and Emily (Albritton) Hill of Union, S.C.; her granddaughter and husband, Major Christopher and Alice (Hill) Haas of Harker Heights, Texas; and her grandson, Benjamin C. Hill of Charleston, S.C.

Pallbearers will be Rick Clifton, Frank King, David McCalman, Kennith Mount, Roger Powell, Jim Smith and Basil Thompson.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to First Presbyterian Church in Andalusia or to the charity of one’s choice.

 

RUTH MITCHELL DAVIS

Ruth Mitchell Davis, 96, entered into rest Thurs., Sept. 19, 2013, in Augusta, Ga.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Mon., Sept. 23, at the Foreman Funeral Home Chapel, with interment following in the Long Branch Baptist Church Cemetery in Red Level. Visitation will be Sun., Sept. 22, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., at Foreman Funeral Home.

She was a member of the Bible Fellowship Church. She retired from Bay County School System in Panama City, Fla.

Family members include sons, James C. (Jo) Davis of Austin, Texas, Eugene Harold Davis of Alvin, Texas, and Earl S. (Debbie) Davis of Panama City, Fla.; daughters, Nell (Jim) Leboff of Grovetown, Ga., Shirley Davis of Panama City, Fla., and JoAnn (Ralph) Mund of Augusta, Ga.; 20 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Belton Davis, and her son, Billy Joe Davis.

Pallbearers will be Jim Leboff, Ralph Mund, Danny Angel, Ralph Barrow, John Leboff and Nick Barrow.
