At least one of the county’s ATRIP projects is completed, while another 12 are in various stages of completion, Chairman Bill Godwin announced at a Wednesday press conference on the county’s portion of the state transportation program.

The announcement was made at Gov. Robert Bentley’s request and was part of a one-day statewide effort to provide citizens in every Alabama county with details on the historic program, which is putting more than $1.2 billion into county and city transportation networks.

Godwin said the area received more than $14.3 million in funding for the 13 projects throughout the county, Andalusia and Opp.

“For us to get that money, we – and that means the county, Andalusia and Opp – had to commit a 20 percent match,” Godwin said. “We were thrilled to get funded. Infrastructure is the key to economic development, and this money helps all of us with projects to promote our respective infrastructure.”

The county was awarded $6.15 million for 11 projects totaling 42.3 miles of county roads and bridges. At present, crews have completed the work on County Road 70 from Mt. Pisgah to County Road 77. The remaining projects are either under contract or have final plans submitted to Montgomery.

Some $8.6 million was awarded for improving South Three Notch in Andalusia and the paving of West Cummings Avenue in Opp.
