The government shut down has cancelled next week’s planned SkyWarn class, County EMA Director Susan Harris said Friday.

The class, which was set for Thursday at the Andalusia Public Library, was labeled an “advanced severe weather spotter training class” and was to be taught by National Weather Service employees.

“But due to the government shut down, they said they can’t travel and give these classes,” Harris said of NWS personnel.

She said 20 residents had registered for the class, which is also known as a “SKYWARN” class.

Harris said it is unknown when the class will be rescheduled.
