Opp bounced back from a 7-0 deficit in the first period, battled back and forth with Red Level and came away with a 55-46 win on Friday at the Tigers’ 16th annual boys Christmas tournament.

Red Level led 7-0 after guard Spender Stallworth got a putback dunk to provide an early statement in the game.

After a jumper by Bobcats guard JaKeith Edwards, Red Level’s William Crawford got a runner to go for a 9-2 lead.

What helped OHS cut into the lead was its own Jaiquan Wade, who made two 3-pointers to bring it to 11-10. The Bobcats took their first lead after Orlando Lacey’s trey.

Then, Red Level’s Devon Dexter found Crawford down low for a shot, and Opp’s Walker Messer got a floater to end the first period, where the Bobcats led 15-14.

Messer got Opp’s first point of the second period, fighting down the lane, where he was fouled.

From there, the game went back and forth after Red Level’s Chavis Crittenden got a jumper for a 20-16 lead.

RLS guard Jeffrey Perdue got four points to give the Tigers a 26-23 advantage later in the second period, and the Tigers held on for a 26-25 lead at the break after Lacey laced in a jumper.

OHS began to pull away in the third period. Ty White got an early jumper to give the Bobcats a lead they’d never relinquish.

Edwards nailed a 3-pointer, Jaylon Wade made a couple foul shots, Lacey got a layup and Wade made another 3-pointer for an Opp 40-33 lead going into the fourth.

Stallworth made a jumper to cut it to 10 at 46-36. RLS got even closer after Crawford made a trey and a jumper with about 1:30 left in the game.

Lacey led OHS with 14 points. Wade added nine and Messer chipped in eight points.

Stallworth scored 15 points, Purdue had 13 points and Crawford chipped in 12.

Opp plays Georgiana at 1:30 this afternoon, while RLS plays W.S. Neal at 10:30 a.m.
