Lady Tigers win 3A regional championship

DOTHAN — Straughn’s Lady Tigers beat Abbeville 61-56 to win the 2014 Class 3A South Regional Championship this afternoon at the Civic Center in Dothan.

Three Lady Tigers  finished in double figures to lead SHS. Tournament Most Valuable Player Jacie Williamson scored 23 points. Katelyn Kinsaul and Janelle Nurse chipped in 11 points each in a game where SHS had to hold on late while in foul trouble against a pressing AHS Lady Yellow Jackets.

With the win, SHS punched its ticket to play in in the Final Four state championships next week at the Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Complex in Birmingham.

The second-ranked Lady Tigers (28-1) play defending state champion, Lauderdale County at 3 p.m. on Thursday in the state semifinal round.
