Don Bivacca, Western Group President of LifePoint Hospitals, and Terry Powell, chairman of the local hospital board, made the announcement to employees this past week.

The memo said Selzer, who has more than 30 years experience as a healthcare admini- strator, will manage the hospital “while we conduct a national search for a permanent replacement.”

Most recently, Selzer was interim CEO for Mercy Regional Medical Center in Louisiana (October – December 2013) and Ashley Regional Medical Center in Utah (October 2012 – July 2013) – both fellow LifePoint facilities. He also has served as interim CEO for Nexus Health Systems in Houston, Texas (2008-2009), vice president and CEO of St. Luke’s Episcopal Health System in Houston (2005-2006), president and CEO of American Medtrust in Houston (2002-2005), and in various executive leadership positions for hospitals within Nashville, Tenn.-based Quorum Health Resources (1981-2002).

A search committed with representation by the hospital board, physicians and department managers selected Selzer.

“His expertise in both hospital operations and management and interim leadership will be an asset to Andalusia,” the memo said.

Selzer replaces Rebecca Brewer, who was first named interim CEO in 2012 and later too the job permanently. She resigned effective March 31 to move closer to her family.
