Andalusia’s Winn-Dixie has reached across the aisle to provide a better shopping experience for families with special needs children.

Acting on the request of Stephanie Fore, mother of Brady Fore, who has Angelman’s Syndrome, Winn-Dixie management worked to get a Caroline’s Cart for their store.

Caroline’s Cart is a shopping cart created for special needs children. It provides parents and caregivers a viable option to transport a child through a store while grocery shopping, without having the impossible task of having to maneuver a wheelchair and a traditional grocery cart at the same time.

It is named after Caroline, the special needs daughter of Drew Ann and David Long.

Winn-Dixie manager Josh Williamson said Fore asked if the store could accommodate, and they did.

“It took about two weeks to get,” he said. “It’s for larger kids and adults who can’t walk. We have had a couple of people who have used it. It’s gotten great feedback.”

Fore said the store didn’t waste time getting the new cart.

“The cart is a fairly new thing and stores are slowly catching on,” she said. “It’s huge for Andalusia to have one.”
