Three local Babe Ruth All-Stars baseball teams will play in the 14-year-old state tournament this weekend at Andalusia High School.

Andalusia, Opp and Covington County will be playing against Monroe County, Mims Park, Sylacauga, Matthews Park and Wetumpka in the four-day tournament, which starts today, to decide who will advance to the Southeast Regional in Newton, N.C.

The first three days are designated for pool play action, where teams in each division — American and National — face off against each other for the highest seed going into Tuesday’s bracket play.

Opp joins Monroe County, Mims Park and Sylacauga in the American Division; Andalusia and Covington County join Matthews Park and Wetumpka in the National Division.

Play starts today at 10 a.m. with Wetumpka playing Andalusia. Opp follows against Monroe County at 1 p.m.; and then CC plays Matthews Park at 7 for the night cap.

On Sunday, Andalusia plays Matthews Park at 1 p.m.; Covington County plays Wetumpka at 4 p.m.; and Opp plays Sylacauga at 7.

Monday is the final day of pool play for the local teams, where Opp plays Mims Park at 4 p.m. and Covington County plays Andalusia at 7 p.m.

The No. 2 seed from the American Division will play the No. 1 seed from the National Division at 10 a.m. on Tuesday. The No. 2 seed from the National Division will play the No. 1 seed from the American Division at 1 p.m.
