ROBERT EUGENE “BOBBY” DOUGLAS

Mr. Robert Eugene “Bobby” Douglas, age 63, of the Pleasant Home community, died Sun., Aug. 24, 2014, at his residence. Funeral services for Mr. Douglas will be held today, Wed., Aug. 27, at 2 p.m. from the Pleasant Home Baptist Church. The Rev. Fred Kelley and Judge Ashley McKathan will officiate.

Mr. Douglas is survived by his three children, Janna McGlamory of Andalusia, Jonathan (Laura) Douglas of Locust Grove, Ga. and Jeffery (Carey) Douglas of Andalusia; a special adopted son, Larry (Joanie) Brown of Andalusia and a special exchange-student daughter — who lived with the Douglases in 1994 and 1995 — Mariana Pardo Miguel from Sao Paulo, Brazil; six grandchildren, John Reid, Mitch, Natalie and Mallory McGlamory, Jon Michael Douglas and Logan Douglas; a brother, Billy (Toni) Douglas of Andalusia.

Mr. Douglas was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Douglas; a daughter, Jamie Douglas; and a grand daughter, Meredith McGlamory.

Pallbearers will be Little Donnie Odom, Brian Kelley, John Barbaree, Tom Findley, Bobby Aughtman, Woodrow Wilson, Bill Hamby and Jimmy Hallford.

The body will lie in state at the church 30 minutes prior to services.

MARGIE S. HASSELL

Mrs. Margie S. Hassell, age 91, of Andalusia, died Fri., Aug. 22, 2014, at Andalusia Manor. Funeral services were held on Aug. 24, at Mobley Creek Church, where Brother Terry Powell officiated. Interment followed in Smith Cemetery.

Mrs. Hassell is survived by daughters and son-in-law, Loris (Mike) Paul and Ginger Hassell, both of Andalusia; granddaughters, Tessa Paul of Troy and Cherokee (Marcus) Spivey of Andalusia; great grandchild, Cruze Spivey; brothers, James Spivey and Sam Spivey both of Atlanta; special nieces, Harriet Phelps and Sherry Baggett; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, George Willard Hassell; brothers, Walter Spivey and Roy Spivey; and sister, Francis Sabol.

The family is accepting flowers or donations may be made to Smith Cemetery Fund.

CLAUDE COURSEY JR.

Mr. Claude “C. J.” Coursey, Jr., 90 years young, was born Dec. 29, 1923 and passed away on Fri., Aug. 22, 2014, in the Andalusia Hospital.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. today, Wed., Aug. 27, from Foreman Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bill Pritchett officiating. Interment will follow in Adellum Cemetery.

Mr. Coursey retired from the United States Navy and resided in Long Beach, Calif. for many years until moving back to Alabama in 2008. He was a veteran of both WWII and the Korean conflict.

He is survived by a very special friend, Margie Bradford of Placerville, Calif.; one sister, Voncile Greathouse of Andalusia; son-in-law, Butch Riding of South Carolina; his granddaughter, Kellie Riding of Long Beach; grandson, Skip Riding of Baltimore, Md.; three great grandchildren, Joey, Anna and Cauline Riding; three nieces, Eleanor (Kim) Dyess and Mary Odom, Sara (Terry) Archie; two nephews, Pat (Gerri) Greathouse and Raymond Coursey; and numerous great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.

The family requests no flowers in compliance with Mr. Coursey’s wishes, but memorials may be made to Comfort Care Hospice.

Pallbearers will be Forrest Greathouse, Troy Greathouse, Hunter Greathouse, Mason Greathouse, Steve Dyess and Chris Coursey.
