Bobcats to play in big region game

Opp head football coach Brent Hill made sure to remind his kids that last week’s victory over then No. 2 T.R. Miller is over and done with as the Bobcats set their minds not only on themselves, but on the Excel Panthers.

The Bobcats (4-2, 3-0 in Class 3A, Region 1) will be in a cat fight tonight for a shot at clinching a Class 3A state playoff berth, also.

“They’re going to be bigger up front,” Hill said. “They’re a big, physical football team. I’m really impressed with their defensive tackle, No. 50 (Jarvis Moss). They’re going to run a 4-4 defense and cover three.”

Hill said EHS (2-4) run about 75 percent of the time.

“We’ve got to make sure we establish the line of scrimmage,” the coach said.

After coming off a big win over the Tigers, one would think that practice would be particularly up be at for the players.

Hill said practice has been the same.

“We’ve been real big on that you’ve got to have high energy,” he said. “When Sunday’s over, we’re done. The biggest thing I’ve seen in the past is that we’ve gotten caught up emotionally with rivalry games.

“So far this week, they’ve got their minds right,” he said. “Have there been more clutter or distractions? Yeah, but it’s coming from the outside. Our kids haven’t talked about it, and I feel like these kids are maturing and starting to believe in what we’re doing.”

On the playoff talk, Hill said he hasn’t talked with his players about it.

“It’s not that we don’t know about it,” he said. “I’d rather just focus week to week. We’re not trying to take a shot at anybody. We want to focus on week to week, and we can’t get caught up on looking down the road.”

Kick off tonight is at 7 at Channel-Lee Stadium.
