Covington County has been awarded a $111,446.50 hazard mitigation grant.

EMA Director Susan Harris said the priorities with these funds will be set to individual safe rooms.

Harris said that approximately 22 shelters for the entire county will be built.

“Please do not fill out an application if you are not going to install the shelter by deadline,” she said. “Also be aware that you have to purchase the shelter in full, and Covington County EMA will reimburse you the 75 percent or up to $4,000.”

Harris said the reimbursement process takes approximately a month.

Applications may be picked up at the EMA office from Dec. 8, through Dec. 23.

All applications must be returned no later than close of business on Dec. 23.
