Superintendent Ted Watson said there is a “short list” of candidates for the next head football coach at Andalusia High School, but he doesn’t know yet when a new coach will be named.

The Board of Education last night officially accepted the resignation of Brian Seymore as head football coach, a change that was announced two weeks ago. Seymore retains his tenure as an AHS teacher.

The board’s newest member, Walter Wytch, asked, “Was it coerced?” when the board reached the action item on last night’s agenda.

Watson said, “No sir.”

In related action, the board approved changes to its supplements, naming Matt Johnson interim head football coach. Watson said he will be in charge of off-season weight training until a new coach can be hired.

Other supplement changes included hiring:

• Robert Woodall for assistant football coach, Level 2.

• Tyler Manning for assistant basketball coach for AHS girls.

• John Dugger for assistant baseball coach at AHS.

• Daniel Bulger for boys tennis coach.

• Candy Parker for head soccer coach.

• Tamika Burns for JV cheerleader coach.

• Jeff Walker for seventh grade boys basketball coach

• Candy Parker for assistant junior high basketball coach.

The board also added a stipulation to the supplement schedule that said If a supplement position is unfilled, that funding cannot be used for another position or spread across to other positions unless otherwise approved by the board.
