The Opp High School swim team competed in sectionals this past weekend in Mobile, and had two swimmers qualify for the state meet.

Mary Beth Baker, a ninth grader, qualified for state in the 200 yard freestyle and the 500 yard freestyle event. Baker’s times placed in fourth for the 200, and third in the 500.

Seventh grader, Emma Younce, also qualified for state in two events. She placed second in the 50 yard freestyle and eight in the 100 yard back stroke.

The two Opp swimmers will head to Auburn on Dec. 12 for the state meet.

“We are proud of them. They represented Opp very well, and we look forward to what they can do at state,” Opp superintendent Michael Smithart said.
