Lady Wildcats lose nail-biter to Lady Hoboes

The Laurel Hill Lady Hoboes rallied late to defeat the Florala Lady Wildcats 36-33 on day one of the Alabama/Florida Shootout in Pleasant Home.

 

The Lady Wildcats opened up the contest with an 8-5 lead after one period. Morgan Jackson and Bailea Rickett had 3 points each for the Lady Wildcats to put them in the lead. Bridget Zessin had 2 of the Lady Hoboes’ first period points.

 

Jackson had 3 more points in the second period to keep the Lady Wildcats up 14-12 heading into halftime. Shay Brooks also had 3 points for the Lady Wildcats.

 

At the end of the third, the Lady Wildcats were still clinging to a slim 22-21 lead. Brooks had 4 points in the period for the Lady Wildcats.

 

The Lady Hoboes found a spark from Zessin and Cynthia Mason in the fourth. Mason had 4 points in the final period, and was a key in the Lady Hoboes’ comeback. Zessin put the Lady Hoboes up 30-29 with a 3-pointer with just under two minutes to play.  Brooks responded by driving hard into the lane, and hitting a layup to put the Lady Wildcats up 31-30. Zessin answered the layup by immediately hitting another 3-pointer to put the Lady Hoboes back on top 33-31. Rickett tied the game up a 33-33 with 55 seconds left on the clock. Then with 37 seconds left Grace Reese hit a layup, and was fouled on the shot. Following a successful free throw attempt, the Lady Hoboes earned a 36-33 victory.

 

Brooks led the Wildcats with 13 points, and Jackson finished with 11 points.

 

The Hoboes were led by Zessin with 11 points. Reece accounted for 9 points, and Mason had 8 points.
