The fifth ranked Straughn Lady Tigers thumped the Andalusia Lady Bulldogs 51-16 Friday night in Straughn for the second area contest for both teams.

 

The Lady Tigers went ahead 14-8 in the first period. Jacie Williamson had 7 points for the Lady Tigers in the opening frame. Katelyn Kinsaul knocked down a 3-pointer in the period to help give the Lady Tigers the early edge. Merikal McCaskill had 4 points for the Lady Bulldogs, and was 2-for-2 for the free-throw line.

 

The Lady Bulldogs kept the Lady Tigers within striking distance in the second period, but trailed 24-12 at halftime. McCaskill and Alex Crittenden had 2 points each for the Lady Bulldogs. Williamson added 5 more points for the Lady Tigers in the second period.

 

The Lady Tigers took complete control of the contest in the third period, outscoring the Lady Bulldogs 19-3. Williamson remained the Lady Tigers go-to option in the third period, and added 6 more points. Kinsaul had 4 points, and Baylee Wilson had a 3-pointer for the Tigers in the third. Crittenden had 2 points for the Lady Bulldogs, and Aaliyah Lawrence had the Lady Bulldogs only other point.

 

The Lady Tigers finished off the Lady Bulldogs in the final period by only allowing them 1 point in the final frame. Wilson added her second 3-pointer of the contest, and Emily Wood went 2-for-2 from the free-throw line to secure the Lady Tigers 51-16 area victory.

 

Williamson led the Lady Tigers with 18 points in the contest. Kinsaul added 9 points for the Lady Tigers. The Lady Tigers are now 2-0 in area play.

 

McCaskill led the Lady Bulldogs with 8 points, and Crittenden finished with 6 points. With the loss, the Lady Bulldogs fall to 0-2 in the area.

 

The Lady Tigers will travel to Opp today to take on the Lady Bobcats. The B-team game will tip-off at 3:30 p.m.

 

The Lady Bulldogs next contest will be in Headland on Jan. 13.
