Straughn B-team sneaks past young Bulldogs

The Straughn Tigers B-team held off the Andalusia Bulldogs for a 37-36 victory Friday night in Straughn.

 

The Tigers jumped out front 5-2 in the first period. Bulldogs’ Rodney Drish got the first 2 points of the game, but was unable to get anything else to fall in the period. Joseph Peeples popped a 3-pointer from the corner for the Tigers, Darian George added bucket with just seconds left in the first.

 

Peeples opened up the second period with another 3-pointer. Daylan Grant had 4 points Kevin Heiken, Caylor Cosbey and Matthew Worley had 2 points each for the Tigers in the second period. Drish added 4 points for the Bulldogs. Adam Peek, Curtis Daniels, and Brown each had 2 points for the Bulldogs. At halftime, the Tigers led 19-12.

 

The Bulldogs battled back in the third period, and only trailed 28-26 heading into the final period. Brown led the Bulldogs with 8 points in the third period. JaQuinton Stallworth added 4 points for the Bulldogs.  Grant led the way for Tigers with 4 points.

 

Down by one with under a second remaining, the Bulldogs’ Curtis Daniels had a chance to tie the game or take the lead on a 1-and-1 opportunity, but Daniels missed the first attempt. The Tigers defeated the Bulldogs 37-36.

 

Drish and Brown led the Bulldogs with 10 points each.

 

Grant led the Tigers with 11 points, and George finished with 7 points.
