OPD charges 2 for sex crimes against minors

Two people are behind bars for their involvement in sex crimes against minors in exchange for sex, money and other things.

According to the Opp Police Department, investigators along with the Department of Human Resources opened an investigation in which they discovered that a female under 16 was being used for sexual favors in return for money.

The crimes were allegedly committed during April and May of this year.

Authorities arrested Melvin James Lawrence, 57, on four counts of second-degree rape, which is a class C felony.

Lawrence was taken to the Covington County Jail and was held on a $1 million bond.

Robyn Marie Underwood, 35, was charged with one count of second-degree rape and one count of promoting prostitution second degree, both of which are class C felonies.

Underwood was taken to the Covington County Jail on a $500,000 bond.

The case is still under investigation by DHR, the Covington County District Attorney’s Office and the Opp Police Department.
