It hasn’t been the season they had hoped for, but the Straughn Tigers (2-4, 2-2) know playoff hopes hang in the balance of their homecoming match up with region foe Ashford (3-4, 2-2) on Friday night.

The Tigers found their way back into the win column last Friday night, when the tore apart Montgomery Catholic 39-0 in Class 4A, Region 2 contest.

Ashford was on the other end similar affair last week when Trinity trounced the Yellow Jackets 35-0.

Both teams come into the game with identical 2-2 region records, and are tied for the region’s final playoff spot. With just three total region games left for both team, Friday’s game will go a long way at deciding which team is playing football in week one of the playoffs and which one is sitting at home.

Straughn’s two region wins so far came against Headland and Montgomery Catholic. The Tigers have put up 106 points this season, and have given up 151 points. Ashord’s two region wins have come from Montgomery Catholic and Bullock County. The Yellow Jackets have rolled up 196 points so far, but have also given up 196 points.

This is the fourth time the two teams have spared on the field, with Straughn owning a 3-0 record all time, including a 28-13 win last season.

So far this season, a lot of Straughn’s offensive production as come from running back Jarvaris Samuel. Samuel has ran the ball 52 times for 361 yards and 7 touchdowns.

Also helping the offense is Tigers’ wide receiver Allan George, who has 10 catches for 123 yards and a touchdown.

Events for the Straughn’s homecoming game against Ashford will begin with the crowning of the queen at 6:30 p.m., and kickoff will follow at 7 p.m.
