William Joshua Turner

Sgt. William Joshua Turner, known to his family and friends as Josh, was born Jan. 10, 1991, in Mobile, Ala. He was a 2009 graduate of Florala High School, that same year he joined the United States Marine Corps.

On Jan. 14, 2016, Sgt. William Joshua Turner went missing during a training exercise off the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii. In the end it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Anne Turner; father, William Jerry Turner; mother, Geneva Louise Walker; and sisters, Christy Wise and Aimee Goodson. He is also survived by an aunt, Virgina Betton.

A memorial for Sgt. Turner will be held at 11 a.m. Sat., Feb. 27, 2016, at the Rodney J Evans Memorial Civic Center with Jerry Elmore and Larry Wise officiating. A fly-over by the U.S. Marines will take place at noon. Visitation will be at the Rodney J. Evans Memorial Civic Center after the services.

David C. Puckett

David C. Puckett, age 57, of Sanford, N.C., died Jan. 29, 2016, of natural causes in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Puckett; their children Warren (Sarah) Puckett, Mary Puckett, Katherine (Cody) Campbell, Margaret Maier, and William ( Kelly) Puckett; and grandson, Charles Puckett. David is also survived by his parents, William and Mary Puckett, and his siblings, William Puckett, Kelly (Douglas) Collins, and Cindy (Dale) Orvedahl. David is survived by aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

David enjoyed time with family and friends, hunting, fishing, and reading. He was involved with local outreach, especially the Christian United Outreach Center, his church, St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church and the Lee County Wildlife Club’s Lee County Shooting Teams..

David was a graduate of Andalusia High School and Auburn University. He was an employee of Big Dutchman Malaysia as a technical production advisor. Prior to this employment he worked for Cameron Testing, Sanford, N.C.; Townsend, Inc, Siler City, N.C. ; Con Agra Foods, Arcadia, La; Wayne Farms, Union Springs, Ala.; and Foster Farms, Modesto, Calif. David especially enjoyed being a field supervisor in broilers and breeder.

The memorial service will be held at St Francis’ Anglican Church, 1089 Wilkins Dr., Sanford, N.C., on Sat., Feb. 27, 2016, at 10 a.m. with a reception following. The interment service will be held at St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church, 312 North Steele St, Sanford, N.C., on Sat., Feb. 27, 2016, at 2 p.m. with reception following.

Elmer Esau Martinez, Jr.

Elmer Esau Martinez, Jr. of Lockhart passed away Tues., Feb. 23, 2016, at Andalusia Regional Hospital.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Fri., Feb. 26, 2016, in the Keahey Funeral Home of Lockhart. Interment will follow in the Rouse and Hicks Cemetery in Crestview. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m., Thurs., Feb. 25, at Keahey Funeral Home in Lockhart.

Survivors include his father, Elmer Martinez, Sr. of Lockhart; mother, Tiffany Russell Martinez of Lockhart; sisters, Kirsten Thompson, Kayleah Thompson, and Keyera Thompson, all of Crestview; his maternal grandmother, Nancy Russell of Florala; his maternal grandfather, Joel Griffith of Laurel Hill; his paternal grandfather, Vindal Sanchez of Lockhart; his paternal grandmother, Nelly Martinez of Honduras; an aunt, Felicia Russell of Paxton; his uncles, Mike Gregory of Laurel Hill, Brian Davis of Holt, Eric Russell of Paxton, and Derrick Russell of Holt; an aunt, Erika Damaris Martinez of Honduras; an uncle, Vidal Martinez, of Honduras; Luis Fernando Martines of Hondruas and Henry Pazzoni of Laural Hill.
