Forecast rains won’t stop the 56th annual Opp Rattlesnake Rodeo.

Opp Mayor John Bartholomew said while rains are forecast for Friday, the show will go on as long the musicians are willing to play.

Bartholomew said the musicians shouldn’t get wet.

“Last year, we had Sunday with the Newsboys in the rain,” he said. “And we expect nothing less for our Friday night show.”

The National Weather Service forecasts 90 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms today and a 70 percent chance tonight.

Four years ago, severe weather struck the rodeo, when the first-ever tornado warning during a Rattlesnake Rodeo promoted organizers to evacuate the stadium.

Sammy Kershaw, Aaron Tippin and John Anderson will play tonight.

Bartholomew said Saturday’s forecast is perfect for the Christian series, which includes Chris Tomlin, Tim Timmons and Ellie Holcomb.

Tickets are $30 at the gate and children 12 and under get in free with a paying adult.

The event will be held at Channell-Lee Stadium.
