The Opp Lady Tigers finished as runner-up Monday night in Class 3A, Area 3 volleyball tournament in Straughn, and clinched a spot in the South Regional tournament in Montgomery.

In their opening match of the night, the Lady Bobcats rallied to knock off Geneva 3-1.

The first set started with Geneva taking an early lead and holding off the Lady Bobcats for a 27-25 win.

Geneva would go up by a few points and Opp would rally back, but couldn’t overcome the Lady Panthers in the opening set. Millicent Nolin, Baliee Boyd and Amber Hadley each had a strong opening set for the Lady Bobcats.

The Lady Bobcats battled back in the second set and came away with a 25-18 victory.

Maggie Short had a big kill to push the Lady Bobcats up 18-9.

Madi Henley came up with a block and a kill on back-to-back plays to put Opp up 21-9. The Lady Bobcats went on to win 25-11.

The Lady Bobcats finished Geneva off with a 25-17 win in game four to earn a spot in the championship match.

“I couldn’t be prouder of my girls,” Opp head coach Bridgett Brantley said. “I thought we played great and we played hard. Straughn is a great team and it would be huge for the county if we both make it to state.”

The Lady Bobcats will face Fultondale Thursday in Montgomery for the opening round of the South Regional.
