Members of the Red Level High School dance line recently received a “chance of a lifetime.”

Over the weekend, they traveled to New Orleans to perform at the Halftime Extravaganza with cheerleader squads and numerous other dance lines from Alabama, Louisiana, Texas and Mississippi. The event is hosted by the Cheerleaders of America.

The girls had the opportunity to showcase their talents in front of more than 18,000 Pelican fans at the Smoothie King Center.

RLHS Band Director Demetrius Scott said that freshman Morgan Ard, sophomore Ja’Kya Richardson and junior Kentrice Nevlous performed during halftime of Sunday’s New Orleans Pelicans NBA basketball game.

“We received the idea from RLHS special education teacher Mrs. Elisa Mount,” he said. “Our dance line sponsor, RLES special education teacher Ms. Jenny Henderson, decided that it would be a great opportunity for the girls to attend. They had a great time and represented Red Level well. They even got to practice at the New Orleans Saints’ practice facility. I am very proud of our girls and want to thank them and Ms. Henderson for their hard work.

Nevlous said she enjoyed the entire experience, except the cold weather.

Ard said, “I liked interacting with other girls from different schools. I like going to a state I’ve never been before.”

Richardson said she enjoyed the whole trip.
